- September 8, 2020: 68 mph measured in the Avenues during the windstorm the Weather Service said did the most extensive damage of anywhere in the Salt Lake Valley. More than 1,500 trees came down on public land alone, including 255 in the City Cemetery in the upper Avenues.
- 89 mph on the east bench that same morning, at the University of Utah just south of the neighbourhood. Salt Lake City put its total damage at a minimum of $6 million.
- March 1 and 2, 2024: a high-wind event that tore part of the roof off an east-side church, about $50,000 in recorded damage.
- Old roofs: median year built 1962 in ZIP 84103, with a large share of the housing far older than that median suggests.
- Trees over everything: the mature canopy that shades the Avenues is also what lands on its roofs in a windstorm.
